Wanblee is apparently still without power. The teachers I know have been staying in Rapid City — they had to drive their with all their valuables since homes are being looted. They expect power to be restored tomorrow and school to resume next week.
Another community, Parmelee, to the southwest of Wanblee and on the Rosebud Reservation, has also been without power for six days. He Dog School, a few miles from town, does have power.
Some of the He Dog teachers have created a blog to call attention to what’s going on in Parmelee.

my mom called me last week to tell me that she read this and all she took away from it was the looting.
Boyce,
Aren’t you glad that you weren’t in town!! It was hell, pure hell to see how greedy some people can be when a time of helping others should have been in place.
I stayed at the school from the time it was opened late that Wednesday evening until the electricity in Wanblee came on.
I survived and I shall give you the full-details about what initially happened.
